A very straight and telling method to see demise of spouse is that the second lord from Upapada is either 1) debilitated or 2) heavily afflicted by Saturn. In such cases disease and premature demise is possible.
Otherwise the weakness of the second lord from Upapada can give divorce. Use this then include the other factors.

I understand from one of your earlier posts that venus placed badly-6th/8th/12th house or even 3rd(8th from 8th) or with malefics causes loss of spouse/partner.but how do we differentiate permanent separation–like divorce from premature demise of partner/spouse.there are a few personal tragedies in the family and hence very eager to know.Also
