हरे राम कृष्ण
Dear K. Lakshman, Namaskar.
Heres answering your query on the topic of Varṇada Lagna.
Varṇa means color, caste or the single syllable of a word or mantra. As a sound syllable it refers to the origin of our creation, namely sound itself of which the first sound was aum. Sound manifests in the Akaśa or ether element, followed by the creation of the Vāyu or air element, which again is followed by the Agni or fire element. At this stage light and therefore also color emanated. This then resulted in the creation of Jala or water which gave sustenance and finally Prthvi or earth which brought about the solid surfaces and therefore also food.

Here is a writeup on the concept of Brahmana Yoga, and its allied yogas. These are compiled from a selection of emails posted at the SJC: Gurukul list.
Email from Julli Morrison:
You keep mentioning the Brahmana yoga (?) which has to do with moon in 8 and saturn in 1st. I’ve looked through B.V. Raman’s 300 Important Combinations and can’t find it. Is there a list on any of the websites which gives these yogas that you use? I’ve had no luck finding them.

A topic which brings much doubt and tests the faith of newcomers in Jyotish is the topic of Ayanamsa. Where our western counterparts who use the tropical zodiac aren’t affected by this problem, those who use the sidereal zodiac, or a zodiac based on star positions are cast into a deep dilemma as to which ayanamsa to use. Where western sidereal astrologers are almost forced to take the plunge into learning the intricacies of the ayanamsa and thereby choose the ayanamsa they like the best, vedic astrologers are presented with a peculiar situation where faith tends to be the compelling factor in choosing ayanamsa.

Solar and Lunar eclipses occur every six months, with both eclipses ocurring within fifteen days of each other. These two close eclipses, their time of ocurrance and the rasi/nakshatra of the luminaries during both events, are most relevant for analysis.
The analysis of eclipses adds significant relevance to the use of nodes transit in the zodiac.
The solar eclipse can occur before or after the lunar eclipse, and as a result the effects of the eclipse also vary from auspicious to inauspicious. Or rather, the eclipse leads ones towards ‘bhoga’ and material benefit, or ‘moksha’ and purging/spiritual benefit.
The effect of the eclipse becomes relevant when occuring over the rasi or nakshatra of natal grahas in the persons chart. Herein the lagna is included as an important point of reference.

Dear Ramesh, Namaskar
This is aiming towards a more advanced understanding of retrogression. Consider this he NEXT level of understanding of the topic.
When we go deeper into retrogression we can no longer settle with simply recognizing two motions of planets, namely Direct vs. Retrograde, but must now consider THREE motions namely:
Direct - Chara (rajasic state)
Stationary - dvisvabhava (sattvic state)
Retrograde - sthira (tamasic state)

Dear Nitin and group, Namaskar
dārārūḍhavaśādvadedupapadāttāmādibhāryaṁ tataḥ tattannaidhanabhātsmarākhyapadato yāvacca pāpādikam|
From the arudha of the seventh (darapada/a7) and from the arudha of the twelfth (upapada/UL) we have to find out everything about the first wife. From the eighth houses of these two arudhas we can know about the second wife. - Translation by P.S. Sastri - Uttara Kalamrita Chapter IV, sloka 40
So, to find the subsequent partners see the eighth from the particular pada. Specifically with the darapada we are concerned with ‘vaśā’ which is any woman/partner, wife/spouse, mate, etc. In the tradition we call this all sambandha.

Atma (soul), Mana (mind) and Tanu (body). These correspond to the i) Charakarakas, ii) Naisargika karakas and iii) Sthira karakas respectively. The dhi or intelligence is an addition to these three, which has been created by Vasudeva (refer creation). Through the lagna we have Bhaava. Look up the sanskrit word for this and you will find that it means much more than just house. It means ‘approach’ or ‘manner of acting/condition, state etc’.
So each bhaava in the chart shows:
i) how we approach a certain aspect of life (bhaava itself)
ii) how we are approached by those people indicated by those aspects of life (bhaavesha - lordship)

Dear Readers, Namaskar
Last week the solar eclipse occurred. The solar eclipse occurred in Uttara Phalguni Nakshatra, whilst the lunar eclipse preceeded it in Purva Bhadrapada. People with the Sun, Moon, Lagna or Lagnesha in these Nakshatras should take special care to analyze the effects of this eclipse.
